Leitmotifs

A leitmotif is a German word that deals with a musical theme for a character. You see this in play in many movies, or in the musical composition, “Peter and the Wolf”. Each character has their own theme, or Leitmotif.

SO DOES STAR WARS! We all know the Imperial March, also known as “Darth Vader’s theme”. But there’s plenty more!

If you click on this link, it will take you to an awesome Google Slides presentation by a music teacher (Thank you Delaney Roberts!) and because it’s slides, you can click on each individual slide and play the leitmotif on each slide.

Also, if you want more detailed information, or an awesome musical podcast to listen to, check out The Soundtrack Show with David W. Collins. He did a deep, deep dive into the music of Star Wars, and this is the first episode leading into it. Look it up and check it out!
